BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Most mornings it takes a cup of coffee, an energy drink, or maybe a sugary treat to wake you up, but how about the roar of an Indy car engine to get you started? Stephen Hauck played backseat driver this morning with Jimmy Tyrie of the Indy Racing Experience to talk about some of the events going on this weekend.

Practice Final: 10:45 AM – 11:15 AM
Race: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Indy on Wake UpThe events kick off Friday at the Shops of Grand River, where you can strap into one of the cars. That starts at 5:30pm.
The race cars can go anywhere from 180-185 mph on courses like Barber’s, and all the way up to 230 mph on courses like Indianapolis.
Castroneves, who won the inaugural race at Barber Motorsports Park in 2010, placed third the past two years. Teammate Will Power (12th in the session) won the race in 2011 and ’12. Castroneves (2012) and Power (2010, 2011) earned the Verizon P1 Award the first three years.
